Restored Hope uses programs that are designed around understandings of how the brain processes information. We have spent years studying alternative methods for treating learning difficulties and removing the barriers that cause them. Very few learning difficulties are beyond the reach of our programs. The process is the same for all:  we first administer testing to help identify what is causing the difficulty, and then implement strategies and programs to quickly address the problem and offer permanent solutions.

Learning difficulties vary from person to person because every brain is unique. Some individuals may have a problem in only one area, while others suffer from difficulties in several areas.  Listed below are some common problem areas, but the list is not all-inclusive.  Please contact us regardless of whether your learning difficulty is listed below.  Our battery of tests allows us to tailor our services to meet individual needs.

Close-point Vision

Close-point vision interventions are designed to correct certain visual deficiencies that primarily cause difficulty at reading distance. These deficiencies, which go beyond problems with visual acuity, can affect reading speed, accuracy, and comprehension and may also contribute to problems with attention and fatigue.  Further testing and intervention must be done by, or under the supervision of, a vision professional. Cogmed

Cogmed addresses difficulties with working memory.  Individuals with poor working memory may have difficulty with multiple-step directions, struggle with math because they can’t keep track of all the steps and processes required to solve a problem, have reduced reading comprehension, or struggle with any task that requires large amounts of information to be held in mind and manipulated.

Fast ForWord

Fast ForWord is a computer-based therapy developed to address difficulties with auditory processing, receptive language and spoken instruction, and reading fluency. Download the PDF 

Interactive Metronome (IM)

IM addresses difficulties with brain timing that affect attention, impulsive behaviors, organization, reading fluency, rhythm, and physical control and coordination.

Phonemic Awareness Correction

A well-known nationally recognized program remediates difficulties with phonemic awareness (the ability to judge what sounds are doing within words).  Individuals with phonemic awareness difficulties often add, leave out, substitute, and reverse sounds and letters.  This problem makes it difficult to use phonics with reading and spelling.

Processing and Cognitive Enhancement (PACE)

PACE establishes and strengthens dozens of underlying processing skills required for efficient and accurate learning.  The program requires individuals to operate outside of their “comfort zone,” thus increasing the speed and efficiency with which they do their work. Download the PDF

Scotopic Sensitivity/Irlen Syndrome (SSIS)

SSIS involves difficulties with visual perception—how the brain perceives and processes visual information. Individuals with SSIS often see the printed page differently from normal readers.  SSIS may cause eyestrain, inattention, and frustration with reading, math, and other classroom tasks. Symbol Imagery Correction

A nationally recognized program helps students who have difficulty with symbol imagery (remembering the visual patterns of words).  The individual may be able to use phonics, but has trouble with words that do not play by phonetic rules or that should be recognized by sight.

Reading Comprehension Helps

A nationally recognized program develops and refines skills in verbal and written expressive language, following multiple-step directions, and high-level reading comprehension skills such as finding the main idea, drawing conclusions, and making inferences. Long-term memory skills are also improved. A more basic program is used with young children and individuals with severely impaired expressive language such as those on the autism spectrum.
