Identifying Learning Difficulties

Very few people would be satisfied with a doctor who treated all of his patients with only one type of pill. Different illnesses require different treatments, and a doctor who didn’t recognize this would be at best considered a quack. However, even a skilled doctor cannot know which treatment to use until he is able to diagnose the condition. Successful medicine begins not with the treatment, but with an accurate diagnosis.

The same is true of learning difficulties. There are many different causes. The first step in addressing learning needs is the accurate diagnosis of the condition and its causes. This requires both thoughtful consideration of symptoms and careful diagnostic testing.

At Restored Hope Remedial Services we recognize how important it is to listen. The person with learning needs and those closest to him have lived with the problem, and always have valuable insights. In addition to an initial interview, caregivers such as parents and teachers are asked to fill out a symptom checklist and a survey of language functioning. These insights are carefully considered, along with the results of a comprehensive battery of diagnostic tests.
